Based
in Vancouver, British Columbia, David Nunuk specializes in
science, nature, and astro-scenic photography. He is also well-known for his environmental photography (see water pollution photos, air pollution photos) David has
worked as a professional photographer for the past 17 years.
David's photography has been published around the world -
his images of nature, agriculture and astro-photography have
appeared on both US and Canadian postage stamps and in magazines
ranging from Time, Geo, Discover, Outside, Canadian Geographic,
Reader's Digest, Nature, British Geographical, the Independent
and the Sunday Telegraph. His work also appears in many other
top publications and art print books.
David
was the photographer for the bestselling books Hiking
on the Edge (Raincoast, 1995) and Haida Gwaii: journeys through
the Queen Charlotte Islands (Raincoast, 1997).
David's most recent book: Natural
Light, Visions of British Columbia (Harbour, 2003) features
his work exclusively. The large coffee table book shows the
startling contrasts of BC - from the warm Mediterranean
tones of an Okanagan vineyard to the crystalline twinkle of
an ice cave. His photographs of frosted mountain peaks, Sahara-like
sand dunes and moss-bedecked rainforests create an inspired
collection of photography. Natural Light has prompted such editorial comments as "...a jewel of photographs...", "...jaw-dropping..",
"...see for yourself to fully appreciate...", "...truly
spectacular...", among others.
David has also appeared on both television and radio,
discussing photography on the CTV News and shows such as CBC's Book Mark, CBC's BC Almanac, and CKNW's "The Peter Warren Show".
 Most
recently David has had another one of his photos chosen for
a 2007 Canadian Flag Stamp (he now has two Canadian
Stamps and one US Stamp in his portfolio).
If
you are frequent browser you may run into one of David's well-known
star trail photos that MSN's online encyclopedia Encarta uses
to illustrate the earth's rotation and the north star.
After graduating from the University of BC with a BSc in
agriculture, he worked as a tree planter, diamond driller
and prospector, among other jobs, before turning to photography.
