Facts: The constellations of Orion, Gemini and Cancer can be seen in the photograph. Orion the hunter is on the right and south of Orion's belt can be seen the pink colored Orion Nebula (or Messier 42, M42, or NGC 1976). This nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across and some 1270 light years distant. Gemini can be seen at the top left of the photo with the two bright twins, Castor (top) and Pollux (below Castor) prominently shown. To the lower left of the photo the constellation Cancer can be seen. The bright star low in the sky is Procyon, the brightest star in the constellation Canis Minor.
