Image: Recycling plastic bottles
Recycling plastic bottles

Caption : PET plastic drink bottles at recycling facility in New Westminster, Canada.
Facts: At the recycling facility the plastic bottles are loaded into a compactor. Most plastic bottles used for soft drinks are now made of PET (polyethylene- teraphthalate), a recyclable plastic which is strong, colorless and impact-resistant. At the start of the recycling process, bottles are compacted into bales, then shredded to create plastic chips. The chips are then cleaned and sent to be used in the manufacture of new bottles. Another use for recycled PET bottles is in the manufacture of polar fleece.
