| Facts: Machu Picchu was an Incan city built around 1450. The site, which now lays in ruin, was abandoned about 100 years later. It is located eighty kilometers northwest of Cusco, Peru, high above the Urubamba Valley. The tall peak in the background of the photo is called Huayna Picchu. Machu Picchu covers 13 square kilometers. |
