| Facts: Easter Island is also known as Rapa Nui, a name given to it by Tahitian sailors in the mid 1800's. It is located about 3600 kilometers off the coast of Chile in the Pacific Ocean. The island is most famous for the giant head statues known as "moai". There are some 887 moai statues in existence - most on the island but some in museums. |
