| Facts: The Very Large Array, or VLA, consists of 27 radio antennas each 25 meters in diameter and each weighing some two hundred and thirty-five tonnes. This is the world's largest radio telescope array. The telescopes are set out in a Y shaped railway network allowing the antennas to be moved. The telescopes in the array can be combined using interferometry techniques to give the resolution of a 22 mile diameter antenna.
