Image: Time lapse of telescope dome
Time lapse of telescope dome

Caption : Time-lapse image of the UK Schmidt Telescope dome. Photographed at Siding Spring, Australia.
Facts: In the photograph part of the optical telescope can be seen inside the opened dome and star trails can be seen in the night sky. The telescope has a 1.8 meter diameter spherical mirror and a 1.2 meter achromatic correcting lens. A Schmidt telescope is a wide-angle photographic telescope used to photograph star fields - covering about 40 square degrees of the sky. The primary mirror of a Schmidt telescope is spherical instead of paraboloidal. It was invented by Bernhard Voldemar Schmidt in 1930.
