| Facts: The Very Long Baseline Array, or VLBA, is a network of ten radio telescopes (such as the one in the photograph) that are controlled remotely from the Array Operations Center in Socorro. The network has stations from Hawaii to the Virgin Islands and simulates a giant telescope by combining the data obtained by each individual telescope. Each telescope weighs 240 tonnes and has a 25 meter diameter dish. |
