Gold nuggets on periodic table

Caption : Nuggets of gold photographed on the periodic table of elements.
Facts: Gold is the 79th element of the periodic table and uses the symbol "AU". The atomic mass of gold is 196.97. Gold has been used by man since the beginning of recorded history. It has been used as a monetary source, as jewelry (it is relatively rare and attractive) and more recently in dentistry and electronics. Gold is very malleable - a single ounce can be beaten into a 300 square foot sheet. Because of it's malleability pure gold is typically too soft for ordinary use. It is often hardened by combining it with copper or other base metals to create an alloy. The gold content of gold alloys is measured in "carats" which use the symbol "k". Pure gold is designated as 24 carat or 24k.
