Tellot Glacier #4

Tellot Glacier #4
Caption:  Tellot Glacier, British Columbia, Canada
Facts:  Glaciers are formed from fallen snow that compacts over time into ice. A glacier is often described as a river of ice as it flows, albeit slowly in comparison, under gravity. In this photograph deep crevasses can be seen. These are created when planes of ice in the glacier move past one another, creating shear forces that cause trenches to develop. Also, Mount Waddington can be seen in the background.
