| Facts: Mount Assiniboine Park is part of the Rocky Mountain chain between British Columbia and Alberta and was established in 1922 as British Columbia's fifth provincial park. Vegetation consists of spruce, alpine fir, lodgepole pine, false azalea, buffalo berries, white rhododendron, and a myriad of other plantlife. The park also contains hundreds of species of wildflowers during mid-summer months. Animal life in the park includes elk, moose, black bears, grizzly bears, deer, mountains goats and many other smaller animals including mink. Mount Assiniboine itself is often referred to as Canada's matterhorn and stands some 3610 meters tall. |
