| Facts: There are about 70 different specices of water lily (or Nympheaceae as they are known in the scientific community). Water lilies can be either "hardy" or "tropical". The "hardy" water lilies only bloom during the day but the "tropical" may bloom at night or during the day. They grow in shallow water along the edges of lakes and ponds and have broad leaves that help them gather sunlight. The water lily provided inspiration to many a famous painter including Monet, and it is also the national flower of Bangladesh. |
